Other Treatments
Treatment is done in order to improve or change something. In medicine, treatment - or therapy - is done in order to correct or cure a health problem. There are many treatments which can be conducted on a patient, but these types can be categorized into preventive therapy, abortive therapy, and supportive therapy.
Preventive therapy is conducted in order to prevent a medical condition from happening to someone. A good example of preventive therapy is vaccines. Abortive therapy, as its name suggests, seeks to abort or stop a medical condition from worsening. Patients who undergo medication or get treated for their medical condition as soon as it is detected get abortive therapy.
Supportive therapy provides comfort to the patient. Other treatments (acupuncture etc) can be classified as manipulative therapy. This is done when a doctor manipulates certain portions of the body in order to treat a medical condition.
Other treatments (acupuncture etc) sometimes involve the use of physical, “hands on” techniques. Although it can be defined in different ways, manipulative therapy, in the context of physical therapy, can be described as having the doctor’s hands actually touch the patient’s skin during treatment. A massage is the best example of manipulative therapy.
You can refer to the Alt Health Directory for a complete listing of preventive, abortive, supportive, and Other treatments (acupuncture etc). However, it is best to ask advice and get information from your doctor about getting the right treatment in case you feel a little under the weather.
